Militants' escape: Two accused remanded afresh

A court in Dhaka on Friday placed two accused on different terms of remand afresh in a case lodged over the recent escape of two death-row convicts from police custody at a Dhaka court.

Of the two, Idi Amin was placed on a six-day remand and Mehedi Hasan Omi was placed on a five-day remand in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain passed the order as police produced the duo before the court after the end of their first round of remand in the case.

On November 27, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain placed Amin on four-day remand in the case. He had surrendered before the court on that day and pleaded for bail.

On the other hand, Omi was placed on seven-day remand on November 24 by the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin.

Death-row convicts Abu Siddiq Sohel and Moinul Hasan Shamim, members of the banned militant outfit Ansar-al Islam, were whisked away by their associates by beating police and spraying some chemicals on their eyes in the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate court area on November 20.
