A writ was filed at the High Court on Tuesday, pleading for its direction to give Tk 15 crore as compensation to a new mother in Barisal for a botched c-section, where doctors stitched her womb leaving a gauge bandage inside.

The writ pleaded for the court's direction for better treatment for the patient and action against the culprits after the investigation. It also pleaded for giving Tk 10 lakh immediately to the family of the victim.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Jibon Nesa Mukta filed the writ, making the health secretary, Barisal Divisional Commissioner and Barisal Sher-e-Bangladesh Medical College Hospital director as respondents in the writ.

According to the documents, Sharmin Akter Shila, wife of Ziaul Hasan of Nalchiti upazila of Jhalakathi gave birth to a daughter through c-section at Barisal Sher-e-Bangladesh Medical College Hospital on April 16. But even after many days of her operation, she was still feeling pain in her abdomen and it got swelled up.

On May 21, pus was seen oozing out from a hole in her belly, making Shila's family rush her to the hospital, where she went through surgery once again.
