Bangladesh added 11 new coronavirus-related deaths and 599 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Monday.

During this period, the infection rate marginally increased to 2.58 per cent from Sunday’s 2.36 per cent.

With this, the daily infection rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for 21 days in a row.

According to the World Health Organization, if the daily-case positivity rate remains at 5 per cent or below for 14 days, it is considered to be safe for mass unlocking.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,62,958 and the total fatalities at 27,566 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 23,193 samples at 821 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 99,75,389 samples.

Meanwhile, 634 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,24,467.

Among the fresh fatalities, two were males and nine were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with seven fatalities, followed by two in Barishal, and one each in Mymensingh and Khulna.

Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 238,724,799 and the death toll to 4,868,928 till Monday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
