Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 10 deaths, 243 cases in 24hrs

Bangladesh reported 10 new coronavirus-related deaths and 243 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Thursday.

This is the lowest daily caseload in the country in 555 days. Last year, on April 14, Bangladesh logged 209 cases.

Also, during this period, the positivity rate dropped further down to a near 19-month low at 1.51 per cent. It was 1.80 per cent on Wednesday.

With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for the 31st consecutive day.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,66,907 and the total fatalities at 27,801 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 16,088 samples at 832 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,01,71,523 samples.

Meanwhile, 534 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,30,083.

Among the fresh fatalities, four were males and six were females.

Chattogram division logged the highest deaths with four fatalities; followed by three in Dhaka; one each in Khulna, Barishal and Mymensingh. Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 242,911,625 and the death toll to 4,939,812 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
