Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 117 new deaths, 5,717 cases

Bangladesh reported 117 new coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Monday.

Health authorities also reported 5,717 new infections from the deadly virus during the same period.

With these, the overall caseload now stands at 14,67,715 and total fatalities at 25,399, according to the daily press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, the positivity rate went up slightly to 15.54 per cent from Sunday’s 15.16 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 36,789 samples at 733 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 86,86,306 samples.

Meanwhile, 8,982 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,67,715.

Among the fresh fatalities, 53 were males and 64 were females.

Dhaka division was the worst-hit region logging 40 deaths followed by 29 in Chattogram, 13 in Sylhet, 11 in Khulna, 10 in Rajshahi, 9 in Rangpur, 4 in Mymensingh and 1 in Barishal.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
