Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 14 more deaths, 543 cases

Bangladesh registered 14 new coronavirus-related deaths and 543 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Tuesday.

Maintaining a downward trend, the positivity rate dropped to a near 8-month low at 2.35 per cent. Monday’s rate was 2.58 per cent.

The country reported 2.33 per cent infection rate 233 days ago on February 21.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,63,501 and the total fatalities at 27,713 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 23,155 samples at 821 laboratories across the country. 

Bangladesh has so far tested 99,98,544 samples.

Meanwhile, 701 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,25,168.

Among the fresh fatalities, 10 were males and four were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with six fatalities, followed by four in Chattogram, Two in Khulna, and one each in Barishal and Khulna.

Rajshahi, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 239,113,422 and the death toll to 4,874,764 till Tuesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
