Bangladesh reported 17 new coronavirus-related deaths and 518 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Wednesday.

Against a downward trend, the positivity rate increased slightly to 2.34 per cent from Tuesday's 2.33 per cent.

With the fresh numbers, the Covid-19 fatalities reached 27,730 in the country while the caseload mounted to 15,64,019, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest fatalities, nine were women and eight men. 

Thirteen of them died in Dhaka division, one in Chattogram, two in Khulna and one in Barishal divisions.

Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions reported no new cases. 

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 22,153 samples at 828 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,00,20,697 samples.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 2,39,595,363 and the death toll to 4,884,239 till Tuesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
