Bangladesh reported 18 new coronavirus-related deaths and 794 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Monday.

Against a downward trend, the positivity rate jumped to 3.19 from Sunday’s 2.90 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,58,758 and the total fatalities at 27,591 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 24,928 samples at 821 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 98,19,418 samples.

Meanwhile, 838 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,19,588.

Among the fresh fatalities, 8 were males and 18 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with seven fatalities, followed by five in Chattogram; three in Sylhet; one each in Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal.

Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 235,779,925 and the death toll to 4,817,459 till Monday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
