Bangladesh reported 21 new coronavirus-related deaths and 703 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Wednesday.

During this period, the positivity rate marginally went up to 2.88 from Tuesday's 2.72 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,60,155 and the total fatalities at 27,635 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 24,376 samples at 821 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 98,69,293 samples.

Meanwhile, 817 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,21,113.

Among the fresh fatalities, nine were males and 12 were females.

Dhaka and Chattogram divisions logged the highest deaths with eight fatalities each; followed by two each in Chattogram and Rangpur; and one in Sylhet.

Mymensingh, Barishal and Rajshahi divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 236,704,318 and the death toll to 4,833,888 till Wednesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
