Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 215 deaths in 24hrs

Bangladesh on Thursday reported 215 new coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours till 8:00am.

Besides, 10,126 cases from the deadly virus were reported during the same period.

The country's overall caseload now stands at 13,96,868 and total fatalities at 23,613, according to a daily press release issued by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the 24 hours, the positivity rate dropped to 22.46 per cent from Wednesday's 23.45 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 45,078 samples at 708 laboratories across the country. The country has so far tested 83,01,459 samples.

Meanwhile, 13,990 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours raising the overall recovery to 12,62,065.

Among the fresh fatalities, 107 were males and 108 were females.

Dhaka division was the worst-hit region, logging 65 deaths followed by 54 in Chattogram, 28 in Khulna, 22 in Sylhet, 16 in Rangpur, 12 in Barishal, 10 in Mymensingh and 8 in Rajshahi. 

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
