Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 23 more deaths, 694 cases

Bangladesh reported 23 new coronavirus-related deaths and 694 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Tuesday.

During this period, the positivity rate dropped to 2.72 per cent, more than a seven-month low since February 5 when a 2.62 per cent infection rate was reported.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,59,452 and the total fatalities at 27,614 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 25,499 samples at 821 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 98,44,917 samples.

Meanwhile, 708 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,20,296.

Among the fresh fatalities, 15 were males and eight were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 15 fatalities; followed by five in Chattogram; two in Khulna; and one each in Rajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh.

Sylhet and Rangpur divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 236,272,441 and the death toll to 4,825,137 till Tuesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
