Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 3 deaths, 229 cases in 24hrs

Bangladesh reported three new coronavirus-related deaths and 229 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Tuesday.

During this period, the positivity rate slightly increased to 1.14 per cent from Monday's 1.08 per cent.

With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for the 43rd consecutive day.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,69,982 and the total fatalities at 27,873 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 20,031 samples at 833 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,03,89,635 samples.

Meanwhile, 211 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,33,836.

All three fatalities were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with two fatalities followed by one in Chattogram.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 247,968,680 and the death toll to 5,023,124 till Tuesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
