Covid-19: Positivity rate jumps to 6.78%

Bangladesh reported three new Covid-related deaths and 1491 new infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Sunday. 

During this period, the positivity rate increased to 6.78 from Wednesday’s 5.79 per cent. 

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,93,700 and the total fatalities at 28,102 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 21,980  samples at 852 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,16,71,795 samples.

Meanwhile, 217 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,50,905.

Dhaka division logged the highest number of deaths with two fatalities, followed by one in Chittagong. 

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first Covid-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 305,259,980 and the death toll to 5,485,789 till Sunday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
