Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 5 deaths, 221 new cases

Bangladesh reported five new coronavirus-related deaths and 221 new infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Friday. 

During this period, the positivity rate increased to 1.28 from Thursday’s 1.21 per cent. With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 2 per cent for the 24th consecutive day. 

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,72,127 and the total fatalities at 27,912 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 17,231 samples at 836 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,05,62,704 samples.

Meanwhile, 219 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,36,111.

Dhaka and Chittagong logged 2 deaths each, followed by 1 in Chittagong.  

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 252,097,350 and the death toll to 5,082,609 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
