Bangladesh reported six new coronavirus-related death and 266 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Wednesday.

During this period, the positivity rate rose to 1.35 from Tuesday’s 1.03 per cent. With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 2 per cent for the 29th consecutive day.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,73,214 and the total fatalities at 27,934 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 19,670 samples at 836 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,06,53,924 samples.

Meanwhile, 223 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,36,967.

Sylhet division logged the highest number of deaths with two fatalities: followed by Dhaka logged two and Rajshahi logged one fatality. 

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 254,544,810 and the death toll to 5,117,529 till Wednesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
