Bangladesh added 6 new coronavirus-related deaths and 294 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Thursday.

The positivity rate declined to 1.50 from Wednesday’s 1.53 per cent.

With this, the daily infection rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for more than five weeks.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak of 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,68,857 and the total fatalities at 27,847 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 19,535 samples at 833 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,03,01,593 samples.

Meanwhile, 227 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,32,695.

Among the fresh fatalities, three were males and three were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with four fatalities; Chattogram division logged two. 

Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mynmansing, divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 245,143,481 and the death toll to 4,974,995 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
