Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 7 more deaths, 247 cases

Bangladesh reported seven new coronavirus-related deaths and 247 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Thursday.

During this period, the positivity rate slightly increased to 1.32 per cent from Wednesday's 1.31 per cent.

With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for the 16th consecutive day.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,70,485 and the total fatalities at 27,887 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 18,690 samples at 833 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,04,27,877 samples.

Meanwhile, 227 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,34,300.

Among the fresh fatalities, four were males and three were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with three fatalities followed by two in Rangpur, and one each in Sylhet and Khulna.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 248,975,213 and the death toll to 5,040,362 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
