Bangladesh added 7 new coronavirus-related deaths and 306 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Wednesday.

The positivity rate rose to 1.53 per cent from Tuesday’s 1.44 per cent.

With this, the daily infection rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for more than five weeks.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak of 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,68,563 and the total fatalities at 27,841 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 19,951 samples at 833 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,02,82,058 samples.

Meanwhile, 288 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,32,468.

Among the fresh fatalities, three were males and four were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with three fatalities; followed by Khulna division logged two and Chattogram and Rajshahi logged one each.

Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mynmansing, divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 244,629,081 and the death toll to 4,966,486 till Wednesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
