Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 9 more deaths, 278 cases

Bangladesh added 9 new coronavirus-related deaths and 278 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Saturday.

The positivity rate rose to 1.85 per cent from Friday’s 1.36 per cent.

With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for the 28th consecutive day.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak of 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,67,417 and the total fatalities at 27,814 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 15,042 samples at 832 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,02,03,665 samples.

Meanwhile, 294 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,30,941.

Among the fresh fatalities, six were males and three were females.

Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions logged the highest deaths with two fatalities each; followed by Sylhet, Rangpur and Mynmansing divisions logged one each. 

Chattogram, Barishal divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 243,036,185 and the death toll to 4,940,121 till Saturday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
