Covid-19: Bangladesh records highest single-day deaths in 8 weeks

Bangladesh on Tuesday recorded 39 deaths from the novel coronavirus deaths—highest single-day toll in eight weeks—taking the tally to 6,254.

Also, 2,212 fresh cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.

The recovery count rose to 352,895 after another 1,749 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

“Thirty-nine more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 6,254,” the release said.

It said the tally of infections has surged to 436,684 as 2,212 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

A total of 15,990 samples were tested at 117 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.

Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 13.83 per cent tested positive, while 16.97 per cent cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, the release added.

Among the total infections, 80.81 per cent of patients have recovered, while 1.43 per cent died so far since the first Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8.
