Covid-19: Bangladesh records lowest daily death toll in 9mos

Bangladesh on Friday recorded seven more deaths from the novel coronavirus infection overnight, which is the lowest count of single-day fatalities from the virus in almost nine months.

The country earlier reported seven deaths on May 8, 2020.

Health authorities also reported 454 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.

The recovery count rose to 478,960 after another 414 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period, a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

“Seven more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 8,094,” the release said.

It said the tally of infections has surged to 534,407 as 454 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

A total of 12,075 samples were tested at 204 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.

Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 3.76 per cent tested positive, while 14.73 per cent cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, the release added.

Among the total infections, 89.62 per cent of patients have recovered, while 1.51 per cent died so far since the first Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8.
