Bangladesh reported 26 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours till 8:00am Friday, the lowest single-day count in 51 days since March 24, when 25 people died from the infection.
The death toll from the coronavirus infection rose to 12,102 with the latest fatalities, according to a press release by the Directorate General of Health Services.
Besides, 848 fresh cases were also detected in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of infections to 779,535.
The infection rate now stands at 13.68 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.55 per cent.
The number of recovered cases rose to 720,471 with 852 patients recovered from the disease in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am Friday, taking the rate of recoveries to 92.42 per cent.
The country is currently under a lockdown which was imposed on April 5 and later extended in several phases until May 16. The nationwide lockdown is expected to be extended for another week after May 16 to reduce risks of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
