Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 195 daily deaths, 6,780 cases

Bangladesh on Saturday reported 195 new deaths and 6,780 new cases till 8:00am according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

With these latest figures, the total fatalities in the country now stand at 19,046 and the total cases at 11,53,344.

The case positivity rose slightly to 32.55 per cent from Friday's 31.05 per cent after testing 20,827 samples in 639 laboratories across the country.

In a 24-hour period, 9,723 patients recovered from the deadly infection with an overall recovery rate of 84.69 per cent.

The overall infection rate is gradually increasing and currently stands at 15.55 per cent.

Among the latest fatalities, Dhaka division saw the highest 68 deaths, followed by 41 in Khulna, 36 in Chattogram, 18 in Rajshahi, 16 in Rangpur and 10 in Mymensingh.

Besides, five died in Barishal division and one in Sylhet.

Bangladesh is running a mass vaccination campaign. The country is procuring vaccines from various sources.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
