Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 198 deaths in 24hrs

Bangladesh added 198 new coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours on Tuesday till 8:00am.

Besides, health authorities reported 7,535 new infections from deadly virus during the same period.

With these, overall caseload now stands at 14,33,396 and total fatalities at 24,547, according to the daily press release issued by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the 24 hours, the positivity rate went down to 19.18 per cent from Monday's 21.08 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 39,278 samples at 719 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 84,80,814 samples.

Meanwhile, 12,950 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours raising the overall recovery to 13,14,916.

Among the fresh fatalities, 116 were males and 82 were females.

Dhaka division was the worst-hit region logging 82 deaths followed by 52 in Chattogram, 26 in Khulna, 18 in Sylhet, 9 in Rajshahi, 8 in Mymensingh, 7 each in Barishal, and 6 in Rangpur.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
