Bangladesh on Sunday reported 231 new Covid related deaths in a 24-hour period.
Health authorities also reported 14,844 fresh coronavirus cases during the same period until 8:00am.
With the latest figures, the total fatalities in the country now stand at 20,916 and the total cases at 12,64,328, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily infection rate dropped slightly to 29.97 per cent from Saturday’s 30.24 per cent.
In a 24-hour period, 15,054 patients recovered from the deadly infection with an overall recovery rate of 86.47 per cent.
During this period, health authorities tested 49,529 samples in 691 laboratories across the country.
The overall infection rate is gradually increasing and currently stands at 16.23 per cent.
Dhaka division saw the highest 77 deaths in the last 24 hours, followed by 53 in Chattogram, 44 in Khulna, 18 in Rangpur, 13 in Rajshahi, 11 in Mymensingh, 9 in Sylhet and 6 in Barishal.
Vaccination update
Bangladesh is running a mass vaccination campaign.
Until Sunday morning, 22,48,106 people received the first dose and 39,836 received the second dose of China’s Sinopharm vaccine.
Meanwhile, 50,255 people have received the first jab of the Pfizer vaccine, with 774 receiving the second dose.
A total of 6,87,681 people received the first shot of the Moderna vaccine, with none administered in the past 24 hours.
Of the AstraZeneca vaccine doses, 58,20,033 received the first shot and 42,98,086 got the second shot so far.
Bangladesh is going to resume administering the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine in Dhaka division from Monday and the rest of the country from August 7, said the health department.
So far, the country has received 2,50,26,320 doses from four vaccine makers of various countries. Of these, 1,13,26,320 were Oxford-AstraZeneca, 55 lakh Moderna, 81 lakh Sinopharm and 1 lakh Pfizer vaccines.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
