Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 237 deaths in 24hrs

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported 237 new coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours till 8:00am.

Besides, 10,420 cases from the deadly virus were reported during the same period.

The country's overall caseload now stands at 13,86,742 and total fatalities at 23,398, according to a daily press release issued by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the 24 hours, the positivity rate dropped to 23.45 per cent from Tuesday's 23.54 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 44,430 samples at 708 laboratories across the country.

The country has so far tested 82,56,471 samples.

Meanwhile, 13,313 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours raising the overall recovery to 12,48,075.

Among the fresh fatalities, 134 were males and 103 were females.

Dhaka division was the worst-hit region, logging 105  deaths followed by 54 in Chattogram, 23 in Sylhet, 20 in Khulna, 11 in Mymensingh, 10 in Rajshahi, 8 in Barishal and 6 in Rangpur.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
