Bangladesh reported 26 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,562 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Tuesday.
Continuing a downward trend, the positivity rate dropped further down to 4.69 from Monday’s 5.67 per cent. This is the lowest rate reported in almost seven months.
The overall caseload now stands at 15,45,800 and the total fatalities at 27,277 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 33,327 samples at 810 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 94,98,414 samples.
Meanwhile, 1,603 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,04,709.
Among the fresh fatalities, 16 were males and 10 were females.
Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 15 fatalities, followed by three each in Chattogram and Rajshahi, two each in Khulna and Sylhet, and one in Mymensingh.
Barishal and Rangpur divisions reported no new deaths.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 229,921,289 and the death toll to 4,715,678 till Tuesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
