Bangladesh added 264 new coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours on Tuesday till 8:00am.
This is the highest single-day Covid death, equaling the number reported on August 5.
Besides, cases from the deadly virus rose by 11,164 during the same period.
The country's overall caseload now stands at 13,76,322 and total fatalities at 23,161, according to a daily press release issued by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the 24 hours, the positivity rate dropped to 23.54 per cent from Monday’s 24.52 per cent.
Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 47,424 samples at 708 laboratories across the country.
The country has so far tested 80,12,041 samples.
Meanwhile, 14,903 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours raising the overall recovery to 12,34,762.
Among the fresh fatalities, 154 were males and 110 were females.
Dhaka division was the worst-hit region, logging 92 deaths followed by 60 in Chattogram, 27 in Khulna, 25 each in Rajshahi, 18 in Mymensingh, 17 in Sylhet, 14 in Rangpur, and 11 in Barishal.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
