Bangladesh reported 79 new coronavirus-related deaths and 3,062 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Wednesday.

Maintaining a downward trend, the positivity rate dropped further to 10.11 per cent from Tuesday’s 11.95 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,03,680 and the total fatalities at 26,278, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 30,294 samples at 791 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 89,58,639 samples.

Meanwhile, 5,999 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,31,984.

Among the fresh fatalities, 43 were males and 36 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 28 fatalities, followed by 23 in Chattogram, eight each in Rajshahi and Sylhet, four in Khulna, three each in Mymensingh and Barishal, and two in Rangpur.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 218,696,062 and the death toll to 4,536,817 till Wednesday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
