39 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Monday, taking the death toll to 2,391.

Besides, 3,099 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 186,894 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday afternoon. 

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 12,358 samples were collected and 12,423 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 952,947 samples have been tested in the country. 

With 4,703 new recoveries, a total of 98,317 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.

The deceased, of whom 30 were males and nine females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 01-10 years, one between 11-20 years, three were between 31-40, six between 41-50 years, 13 between 51-60 years, 11 between 61-70, three between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years.

Under division-wise categorisation, 19 hailed from the Dhaka division, seven from Khulna, five from Chattogram, three from Barishal, two each from Sylhet and Rangpur, and one was from the Mymensingh division.

34 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas five died at home.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 568,296 as of Monday morning, according to the data by the Centre for System Science and Engineering of Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 12,872,434 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 4,882,336 infected patients, 4,823,407 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 58,929 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.

So far, 7,092,481 people have recovered.
