Covid-19 claims 7 more lives, 253 newly infected in 24hrs

Bangladesh registered seven more Covid-19 related deaths and 253 new infections in the past 24 hours until Friday morning. 


According to the latest data, the total number of fatalities reached to 27,946 while the positivity rate was recorded 1.40 per cent on Friday, that displayed an upward trend compared to Thursday.  

After adding the fresh cases, the total caseload jumped to 15,73,711 said a regular bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 18,124 samples at 836 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,05,62,704 samples.

Meanwhile, 298 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,37,816.

Dhaka logged the highest 6 deaths, followed by 1 in Chittagong. 

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 256,209,677 and the death toll to 5,135,227 till Friday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
