Covid-19: Daily deaths dip further to 145, tally crosses 25,000

Bangladesh added 145 new coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours till 8:00am Friday.

On July 4, Bangladesh reported 153 deaths. Since then, daily deaths had continued to stay above 160, until Thursday, when the country saw 159 fatalities.

Health authorities also reported 5,993 new infections from the deadly virus during the same period — the lowest in 28 days.

With these, the overall caseload now stands at 14,53,203 and total fatalities at 25,023, according to the daily press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the 24 hours, the positivity rate went down to 17.18 per cent from Thursday’s 17.64 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 34,892 samples at 724 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 85,93,946 samples.

Meanwhile, 10,574 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours raising the overall recovery to 13,47,755.

Among the fresh fatalities, 77 were males and 68 were females.

Dhaka division was the worst-hit region logging 57 deaths followed by 43 in Chattogram, 15 in Khulna, seven each in Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh, five in Rajshahi and four in Barishal.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
