Bangladesh added 159 new coronavirus-related deaths over the last 24 hours on Thursday till 8:00am.
On July 4, Bangladesh reported 153 deaths. Since then, daily deaths had continued to stay above 160.
Health authorities also reported 6,566 new infections from the deadly virus during the same period — the lowest in 27 days.
With these, the overall caseload now stands at 14,47,210 and total fatalities at 24,878, according to the daily press release issued by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the 24 hours, the positivity rate went down to 17.64 per cent from Wednesday’s 17.67 per cent.
Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 37,226 samples at 723 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 85,59,054 samples.
Meanwhile, 10,153 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours raising the overall recovery to 13,37,181.
Among the fresh fatalities, 76 were males and 83 were females.
Dhaka division was the worst-hit region logging 50 deaths followed by 38 in Chattogram, 23 in Sylhet, 13 in Rajshahi, 12 in Khulna, 10 in Barishal, 8 in Rangpur, and 5 in Mymensingh.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
