Covid-19: Death toll rises by 102, cases 4,698

Bangladesh reported 102 new coronavirus-related deaths and 4,698 infections in a span of 24 hours till 8:00am on Thursday.

The overall caseload now stands at 14,82,628 and the total fatalities at 25,729, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, the positivity rate dropped down to 13.77 per cent from Wednesday’s 14.76 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 34,111 samples at 789 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 87,88,765 samples.

Meanwhile, 8,314 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 13,97,885.

Among the fresh fatalities, 52 were males and 50 were females.

Dhaka logged the highest with 37 fatalities in terms of deaths per division, 24 in Chattogram, 13 in Sylhet, 8 in Khulna, 6 in Barishal, 5 each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh, 4 in Rangpur.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
