38 patients died from Covid-19 in the country over the last 24 hours as of Monday, taking the death toll to 1,502.
Besides, 3,480 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 115,786 confirmed cases in total.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Monday afternoon.
Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 16,287 samples were collected and 15,555 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 627,719 samples have been tested in the country.
With 1,678 new recoveries, a total of 46,755 patients recovered from coronavirus to date.
The deceased, of whom 33 were males and 5 females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 11-20 years, three between 21-30, one between 31-40, three were between 41-50 years, 16 aged between 51-60, ten between 61-70, three between 71-80 and one was between 81-90 years.
Under division-wise categorisation, 15 hailed from the Dhaka division, 12 from Chattogram, four from Barishal, two each from Rajshahi, Khulna and Mymensingh, and one was from the Sylhet division.
25 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals whereas 12 died at home. The remaining one was already dead when brought to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 467,636 as of Monday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 8,927,195 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.
Among the currently 3,736,439 infected patients, 3,681,705 are in mild condition, which is 99 per cent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 54,734 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only one.
So far, 4,418,922 people have recovered.
