Covid-19 death toll tops 26,000 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh reported 89 new fatalities from Covid-19 and 3,948 fresh infections in the last 24 hours till 8:00am Sunday.

The total number of deaths from the deadly infection now stands at 26,015 and the overall caseload at 14,93,537, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, the positivity rate went up to 14.14 per cent from Saturday's 13.67 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 27,921 samples at 789 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 88,69,393 samples.

Meanwhile, 6,466 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,15,697.

Among the fresh fatalities, 41 were males and 48 were females.

Dhaka logged the highest with 27 fatalities in terms of deaths per division, 21 in Chattogram, 10 in Sylhet, nine in Khulna, eight in Barishal, seven in Rajshahi, five in Rangpur and two in Mymensingh.

Earlier, the daily death count in the country from Covid-19 dropped below 100 after 63 days as health authorities on Saturday reported 80 new fatalities.

Another 200 tonnes of medical oxygen arrives from India
Another 200 tonnes of liquid oxygen were imported from India by the Oxygen Express through Benapole land port in Jashore on Friday night.

The special train carrying the oxygen reached Benapole railway station via Petrapole land port of India.

Following all the custom formalities, the Oxygen Express will reach the western side of Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj from where these oxygen tankers will be supplied to various hospitals and clinics across the country.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
