Bangladesh reported five new coronavirus-related deaths and 244 new infections in the past 24-hour until 8:00am on Thursday.  

During this period, the positivity rate declined to 1.25 per cent from Wednesday’s 1.35 per cent.

According to the latest data, the daily positivity rate of the disease remained below 2 per cent for the 30th consecutive day in the country.  

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,73,458and the total fatalities at 27,939 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 19,507 samples at 836 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,06,73,431 samples.

Meanwhile, 294 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,37,518.

Dhaka division logged the highest number of deaths with three fatalities, followed by Chittagong and Rangpur one each.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 2,55,103,209and the death toll to 5,216,415 till Thursday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
