Covid-19: Infection rate drops below 15pc with 4,966 new cases

Bangladesh added 4,966 new Covid-19 cases over the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, the positivity rate went down to 14.76 per cent from Tuesday’s 15.12 per cent.

With this, the daily infection rate drops below 15 per cent after 70 days.

Health authorities also reported 114 new coronavirus-related deaths during the same period.

With these, the overall caseload now stands at 14,77,930 and total fatalities at 25,627, according to the daily press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 33,640 samples at 788 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 86,86,306 samples.

Meanwhile, 8,808 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 13,89,571.

Among the fresh fatalities, 62 were males and 52 were females.

Dhaka division was the worst-hit region logging 34 deaths followed by 29 in Chattogram, 13 each in Khulna and Rajshahi, 9 in Sylhet, 6 each in Mymensingh and Rangpur, and 4 in Barishal.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
