The government has started to provide cash compensations to doctors, nurses and healthcare workers along with government officials and staff who are infected with the coronavirus or have passed away in the line of duty.
According to the Finance Division, the Health Minister’s personal secretary Md Wahidur Rahman is the first person to receive the compensation benefit as he got infected with the coronavirus on March 24.
Wahidur will receive compensation according to his grade. He is a 5th-grade government official.
The beneficiaries had submitted applications to the Finance Division to receive the compensation.
An official of the Finance Division said, “We will only approve applications of government officials or staff if they get infected with the coronavirus in the line of duty.”
“We hope that doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who are infected with coronavirus while engaged in treating patients too will get the benefit from the compensation package,” the official also said.
Finance division has allocated Tk 500 crore to provide compensation for doctors, nurses, medical staff along with employees of field administration, law enforcement agencies, armed forces and other staff directly engaged in managing the coronavirus crisis.
