Bangladesh reported 61 new coronavirus-related deaths, lowest in 80 days, in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Saturday.
Health authorities also recorded 1,743 infections during the same period, which is also the lowest number of single-day infections in 84 days, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
During this period, the positivity rate dropped below 10 per cent to 9.82 per cent after 93 days since June 3.
The overall caseload now stands at 15,12,026 and the total fatalities at 26,493.
Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 17,750 samples at 796 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 90,38,852 samples.
Meanwhile, 3,421 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,12,026.
Among the fresh fatalities, 30 were males and 31 were females.
Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 32 fatalities; followed by 13 in Chattogram; 6 in Khulna; 4 in Rajshahi, 2 each in Barishal and Rangpur, and 1 each in Sylhet and Mymensingh.
Earlier, 60 fatalities were recorded on June 16.
On June 12, the DGHS logged 1,637 new positive cases, which was the last recorded daily case count below 2,000 until Saturday.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 220,764,937 and the death toll to 4,570,109 till Saturday morning, according to the US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
