Covid-19: MPs asked to get tested before budget session resumes

Members of Parliament (MP), who will participate in the remaining days of the current budget session, have been asked to get tested for the Covid-19 after a number of lawmakers were diagnosed with the infection.

A total of 170 MPs have been asked for getting themselves tested before attending the session.

The budget session for 2020-21 fiscal year was adjourned till June 23 after Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed the national budget on June 11. The supplementary budget was passed on June 15.

The 170 MPs that are going to join the general discussions on the proposed budget in the next four working days after resumption have been told to provide samples for testing.

However, these tests are not mandatory, Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury told The Business Post, "This decision has been made for the safety of everyone."

He added that 20 among those 170 MPs have already given their samples and the rest are going to by today (Sunday).

15 ministers and MPs got infected with the coronavirus so far.
