In recognition to doctors and healthcare workers engaged in treating and managing coronavirus-infected patients at the risk of their lives, the government has announced an extra payment equal to their basic salary for an additional two months.
The Finance Division of the Finance Ministry on Thursday issued a circular, signed by Joint Secretary of Mohammad Abu Yusuf, regarding the decision of giving incentives to medicare professionals.
According to the circular, the government has decided to give one-time special honour to doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who are directly involved in providing services to patients infected with the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
Only doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, who are directly involved in providing services to patients infected with the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19), will be considered eligible for a lump sum of two months' basic salary.
In addition to this, in case of receiving an honorarium, the following procedure should be followed:
Department of Health or Department of Nursing and Midwifery, after verifying the applications received in the specified form, will send the list of names of suitable doctors, nurses and health workers to the Health Services Department of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The Department of Health Services will issue a government order to pay the honorarium with the consent of the Finance Division after proper verification of the selected from the list.
Necessary allocation has been made in favour of the Department of Health Services in the budget of the financial year 2020-21 for the honour.
This honorarium shall be payable in addition to the financial assistance or grant applicable to the honorarium mentioned in any other notification or order currently in force.
The finance ministry says the names and ID numbers of doctors, nurses and health workers must be mentioned in the application to get the one-time special incentive.
In addition, rank, office and salary grade, basic salary and one-time special honorarium should be mentioned. The name and address of the hospital or institution where the coronavirus was employed should also be written.
On April 23, the government declared special stimulus for doctors, nurses, health workers, police, local administration and field officials have been working at the risk of their lives to prevent coronavirus from the very beginning.
Therefore, the government has already announced to pay Tk 5 to Tk 10 lakh in compensation if any of them is affected by the coronavirus and Tk 25 to Tk 50 lakh in case of death.
