Antibodies against Covid-19 were found in about 60 to 70 per cent of people in the country.

Renowned scientist and head of the Department of Immunology at the International Center for Diarrhea Research, Bangladesh (icddr, b), Dr Firdausi Qadri made the comment in a virtual interview held on the occasion of her receiving ‘Ramon Magsaysay Awards-2021’ on Friday morning.

She said, "The infection rate has decreased worldwide after an upsurge. One of the reasons behind the matter is antibodies against the virus.”

In order to be free from Covid infection, everyone should wash their hands regularly, wear masks and maintain social distance, she added.

In addition, to speed up the vaccination programme, more people need to be vaccinated, she further said.

On August 31, The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation Board of Trustees announced the winners of the ‘Ramon Magsaysay Awards-2021’.

In addition to scientist Firdausi Qadri, Muhammad Amjad Shaqib, head of one of Pakistan’s largest microfinance institutions, received the award for his role in alleviating poverty in Pakistan and Steven Munchi, who worked to rebuild the lives of displaced refugees in Southeast Asia, also received the award this year.
