Covid: Daily positivity rate drops to 10.24%, death toll rises

Bangladesh on Thursday registered 3,539 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours while the daily infection rate slid down to 10.24 per cent.

The country also logged 20 more deaths over the same period, pushing the tally up to 28,907.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the new year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

On Wednesday, the positivity rate was 12.2 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak at 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

With the fresh infections, the total number of caseload reached 19,26,570, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Wednesday afternoon.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 34,547 samples at 874 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,31,30,999 samples.

Meanwhile, 11,800 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 17,27,866.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
