Covid: Daily positivity rate drops to 15.46%

Bangladesh on Friday recorded another 5,268 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity rate sliding down to 15.46 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 27 more coronavirus-related deaths were also recorded, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,771.

Bangladesh’s total number of positive cases now stands at 18,99,803 since the country first detected Covid patient on March 8, 2020.

On Thursday, the positivity rate was at 16.95 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 34,067 samples at 871 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,29,32,076 samples.

Meanwhile, 11,353 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 16,55,981.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

Among the new deceased, 15 were men and 12 women.

Fourteen deaths were reported in the Dhaka division, five in Chattogram, four in Khulna, two in Sylhet, one each in Rajshahi and Barisal.
