Covid: Daily positivity rate rises to 1.69%

Bangladesh on Thursday recorded another 233 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity slightly increased to 1.69 per cent.

The country also lost no lives from the viral disease in last 24 hours for the third consecutive day keeping the tally to 29,112.

On Wednesday, the positivity rate stood at 1.38 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak at 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

With the fresh infections, the number of total caseload reached 19,50,357, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Thursday afternoon.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 13,791 samples at 878 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,36,92,423 samples.

Meanwhile, 1,561 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 18,67,161.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.
