Bangladesh registered zero Covid-19 related death and 178 new infections in the past 24 hours until Saturday morning.

Bangladesh last reported zero Covid deaths in the country on April 3 last year.

According to the latest data, the total number of fatalities reached to 27,946 while the positivity rate was recorded 1.18 per cent on Saturday, that displayed a downward trend compared to Thursday.  

After adding the fresh cases, the total caseload jumped to 15,73,889 said a regular bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 15,107 samples at 836 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,07,06,662 samples.

Meanwhile, 190 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,38,006.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 256,817,017 and the death toll to 5,143,443 till Saturday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
