Covid deaths drop to 50, fresh cases 1,742

Bangladesh witnessed 50 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours till 8:00 am on Wednesday, which is the lowest daily tally since April 2 when 50 people died of the virus, according to a release issued by the Director General of Health Services.

With the new deaths, the death toll from the virus rose to 11,755 in the country.

Besides, 1,742 people tested positive for the virus during the same period bringing the caseloads to 767,338.

The tally of recoveries rose to 698,465 with 3,433 people got cured from the disease in the 24 hours pushing the rate of recoveries to 91.02 per cent, said the DGHS.

The rate of positivity now stands at 13.80 per cent while death rate 1.53 per cent.

Bangladesh is currently under a lockdown that began from April 14 and was extended afterwards in several phases. The nationwide lockdown is scheduled to continue till May 16, to tackle a second wave of the virus pandemic.
