Cox’s Bazar Police refuse to accept Shipra Debnath's case
Shipra Debnath (L), along with Shahedul Islam Sifat (M) and Mahbubul Alam Tipu (R), their lawyer, went to the police station around 12:00am on Wednesday to file the case.

Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station has refused to register Shipra Rani Debnath's case under the Digital Security Act-2018 for spreading propaganda against her on social media.

Shipra, an aide of slain Major (retd) Sinha, along with Shahedul Islam Sifat and Mahbubul Alam Tipu, their lawyer, went to the police station around 12:00am on Wednesday to file the case, accusing 150 unidentified people, including two police officers- Satkhira Superintendent of Police (SP) Mostafijur Rahman and SP Mizanur Rahman Shelley of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

Shipra's Lawyer Mahbubul Alam Tipu said, Md Khairuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, had advised them to file the case with Ramu Police Station or a special tribunal instead.

The lawyer said, "The OC told us that the case could not be filed with the police station as the place of the incident was not under the jurisdiction of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station. The OC also said Shipra could go to Ramu Police Station and file a case there if the electronics devices were lost in Ramu area; or the case could be filed with a special tribunal if the aggrieved person wants."

Lawyer Mahabubul told the media that after arresting Major (retd) Sinha's associate Shipra Debnath, police took away various devices including laptop, hard disk and pen drive.

Extracting personal data from these, they have edited Debnath's personal pictures and videos and published those on YouTube along with social media, he added.

In response to the OC's remarks, Shipra said, since she was granted bail in a police case, she had been living at Jaltaranga resort in the beach area and the area was under Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station. She explained, that was why she had come to the police station to file the case. But still the police refused to accept the case, the lawyer said.

Contacted, Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station OC Khairuzzaman said, any person reserves the right to file a case.

However, the case could not be accepted as the scene was not under the jurisdiction of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, the OC said.
