CPD sells country’s data to earn money, says minister Kamal

Finance Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal has alleged that Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has been selling data economic and business data to foreign countries for the last 10 years.

Finance minister made the allegations on Monday after a virtual meeting of National Board of Revenue.

The minister said, “Our data is fact based but CDP's data are full of assumptions. Ongoing roads and highways projects, power plants and other mega projects are proof of our GDP growth.”

As per provisional data of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic (BBS), Bangladesh posted 5.24% GDP growth in the last 2019-20 fiscal year.

Raising question about the credibility of the provisional 5.24% GDP growth in the last fiscal year, the CPD said the calculation of the economic growth had not taken the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic into consideration. GDP growth may be 2.5 percent, CPD said.
